A Lenten Walk with Jesus
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Heather Spears Kallus completed her Master's Degree in Nutritional Sciences from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 1999. She enjoyed her career as a Registered Dietitian, while working in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, doing nutrition counseling, and teaching college nutrition classes. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, raising her three children and writing her Sips of Sunshine blog. She continued to pursue her love for words and wrote two children's books, Gabriel's Golden Key and Thank You, Hurricane Harvey.
God decided to send her in a little bit different direction. Instead of focusing on physical food with her nutrition degree, God wanted her to focus more on the spiritual food that nourishes us. Since 2017, she has been the Director of Religious Education at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas where she leads the CCD program at the parish. In her role as Parish Catechetical Leader, she shares the Catholic faith with over 350 children, their parents, and more than 70 adult volunteers every year. Heather is also the coordinator of a preacher support team for the Institute for Homiletics, a collaboration of The Catholic Foundation and the University of Dallas.
During the Lenten Season of 2023, Holy Family parish was looking for a faith-sharing book for small groups, similar to the one that the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament published for many years (Disciples on the Journey). It was hard to find, so with the wonderful encouragement of Holy Family's pastor, Father Gabriel Bentil, Heather decided to use her passion for writing and sharing God's Word to create the book in your hands. Heather's beautiful friends, Melissa Doggett, Debbie Vanelli, and Margaret Janak are responsible for all of the awesome editing. Heather sends great big hugs to them, too! To Elida Zuck, who helped translate the book into Spanish ... muchas gracias!
Heather still enjoys reading Nutrition Facts labels, but it is her prayer and hope that you will enjoy reading this Lenten book even more!
Heather currently lives in the great state of Texas with her husband and three children.
